Jaw Jaw- A Tella is a cosy, guest-friendly, locally owned and picturesque mini resort in a Saramaccan village in the heart of Suriname on the upper Suriname river near the Jaw Jaw rapids. The accommodation is in the village itself, so you will be immersed in the local population, allowing you to actively participate in different activities and view the unique, ancient culture up close. Budget accommodation options (hammock and tents) are available from May 2023.
 
Experience the life of the descendants of the fled enslaved people of the plantations and the surrounding environment of the Amazon rainforest. You can fully absorb the atmosphere through beautiful forest walks; spotting caimans; sailing with canoes; Saamaka Alisi and cassava processing; various board games; soccer with the local youth; and boat trips on rapids in the nature reserve. You will stay in traditional huts (wosu) made according to age-old building techniques and materials. The huts are made with only materials from the wooded area of Jaw Jaw. 
 
We will prepare breakfast, lunch and hot meals as much as possible from our harvest.
